Safe List Scamsby David DownesWhen I first became a Webmaster, I was eager, just like most of you, toinform people of my site's existence. westmorelandmilkglass, backatone, disneylandvacationpackages. I quickly discovered that thereare many pitfalls that await inexperienced newbies. finishedbasementidea. One of thosepitfalls is the so called 'Safe Opt-In List'.I was recently reminded of this danger, when I received an e-mail fromone of my newsletter subscribers. getficoscore, proflower, chubbyplumpwomen. He had recently suffered at the handsof one of these 'SAFE' e-mail list scams that exist and almost lost hisISP, after they had received just one complaint that he was spamming.I am pleased to say, the subscriber didn't loose his ISP. juicyicon, beddingnauticaltheme, behaviourschool. He was luckybut you may not be, if it happens to you.In truth, it is very rare to find a completely 'safe' opt-in mailinglist. floridarecruiter, suitsofarmor. There are lots of sites that offer a free service whereby yousubscribe to various opt-in mailing lists, advertise the service, thenyou may send your messages to everyone on the lists you have joined. However, these are not always what they appear to be. sfptransceiver, alphaluna. At best, you canbe swamped with 100's of e-mails every day or at worse, the mailing listis full of auto-responder addresses and yourmessage never gets seen by anybody.Never, ever pay for a 'safe' opt-in list, almost every one is a scam ofsome sort or other. bridgepicture, randalljarrell. The addresses on these lists have more than likelybeen harvested from web sites, e-zines, e-groups and such services asdescribed above.Hackers have been known to obtain company members' e-mail addresses andsell those, e.g. weaknessinme, fairycards. MyFreeMailer which was a very safe scheme for sendingmessages. mainedmv, tanningbedlotion, galaxyrangers. It was recently hacked and its data base, of member's e-mailaddresses, has found its way into 'Safe' lists. cigarettesmokeremoval. Some scam artists willeven offer to pay you for your own mailing list. The only really 'safe' mailing list, is the one you create yourselfeither by using such programs as Listbot (http://www.listbot.com) or bypeople requesting to receive e-mail from you or by using a service youmay offer, e.g. lawnsign, saphirhotelparis, lauralynn. a free ads e-zine.If you receive unrequested commercial mail from people, don't getannoyed about the spam. seventeenvideo, weatherforkids, cutterwire. Send them your commercial material in reply andadd them to your list ~ you can bet you have been placed on their list.It is only right and fair that if somebody wants you to read their mail, then they should be prepared to read yours. If you do use an opt-in list, always inform the recipient of this factAND always give them the option of being removed from YOUR mailing list. This option should ALWAYS be done via e-mail and NOT by sending them toa web site.Remember, one person's 'safe' list is another person's spam. Finally, something I am always on about. indianrun. Never expose your e-mailaddress book! This is a gold mine to the spammer. automaticidentificationsystem. If yousend an e-mail to multiple addresses, always use the Bcc (blind copy to)feature of your e-mail package. lanelollipop. If you are unsure how to do this, dropme a line at magic69@...?subject+c-help and I'll walk youthrough it.

How Much Is Your Website Worth In Real Money?
Have you ever wondered what your website is worth on the open market? Do you understand that the older your domain becomes and the more you market your website, the higher its value becomes? Have you ever considered selling your website? These are questions that every webmaster should ask themselves from time to time, especially when sales start to dry up or their adsense earnings start to lower.
I have been learning the ins and outs of internet marketing for a number of years now and am often left quite shocked by the way in which a lot of webmasters do not realise that their website promotion should be seen as a long term project. canadalanyard. Instead of taking this long term and patient view with their site, they attempt and expect to become rich via their website in just a few months.
I have known many webmasters who start out with the right attitude. bedroomcollection. They have a great looking site with interesting and useful content and work very hard in the first few months to then promote the site. ericablasberg, valentineweekendgetaway. They do this in a variety of different ways that I have normally explained to them, but then after just a few months they seem to lose interest just like a child who has been bought a new toy.
As an example I have a friend who at one point was writing an average of twenty articles per week, to promote his website. signaturetag. This lasted for around nine weeks before he basically got bored. strategicplanningmanagement, receivingshipping, whatiam. He stated that the results were not as good as he had expected and that he was upset that he had not managed to achieve any top ten rankings for his main keywords in Google.
He had worked hard but to be fair had only concentrated on article marketing as a way of marketing his website, this of course was not what I had advised. idahostateuniversity. I do however wonder how his site would now be doing now, a year on, if he had managed to continue writing his articles.
He has decided not to renew the domain of his site which I again think is a mistake. freezipdownloads, partypunchrecipe. I treat every website that I have as a piece of real estate which I can sell at any stage of the future. wholesalegemstonejewelry. Just think for a while how much a page rank six website would be worth, with even more promotion and in lets say another ten years this site could and reach a pr7 and beyond.

Why Content Is King
If you’re goal is to build a successful web site then remember that content is King. microsoftwordtroubleshooting. Without content no one will stay on your site long enough for them to find out what your passionate about. syntheticrubber, floridamedicalmalpractice. Building a web site based on one of your passions is what will give you the enthusiasm to write a content rich web site.
Many web masters lose their focus on their passion, and start worrying about search engine optimisation. nascarthunder, freejewelquest. A very tiny piece of your web site should be based around this. montannarae, boseheadset. That’s enough to let the search engines know what your site, and it pages are about. kappaalphapsi. There are a thousand other criteria that search engines take into account that go far beyond what is written on the page.
One of them is how long a person stays on your site after they have clicked on it from the search engine results page. telefonbuchschweiz. If it takes someone ten minutes to go back to the search engine to look for another site the search engine will know about it. nursingagency, devonbabe, pinkstink. This is where your content about your passion plays a major advantage over a site built purely to please a search engine with it’s optimised pages. illinoisfleamarket, reeddiffuser, blackcomputerdesk. When someone clicks on a site that is search engine optimised to the point that it doesn’t make any sense then that visitor is going to click the back button instantly to look for another site. storefrontsoftware, airlineschedules, sendplant. It will be a site like yours that will offer them the content that they were looking for.
Search engine optimisers spend hours, and sometimes days perfecting a page for the search engine’s algorithms for that month only to see it drop again when the algorithm changes the next month. graffitiplaydo, adonue, securityspecialist. The pages with content that web surfers like to read are the ones that are continually at the top of the search engine results pages. snapappliance. Your pages can get found for hundreds of different word combinations. swarovskicrystals, dlpversusplasma. Why bother optimising them for one phrase? People that do this are on a never ending chase, and losing out on thousands of potential visitors to their site every month.
Not only will your content rich web site keep your visitors attention but it will also lead them to the goal of your web site. biphasicdefibrillators, motorolahandheldradio, treekeeper. This could be a lead, or it could be a sale. whiteboard, confitrecipe. Your content will draw them in. quiltingruler, malesemen, orderingphentermine. They will feel that your passionate about your chosen subject, and they will feel this as they’re reading. concretesaw, greatblowjob, internationalmoneyorder. When they see you’re an expert they will see your advice or recommendations with a more open mind to make the purchase or leave their contact details.
Building a web site goes far beyond that number one place in the search engine results. frightcatalog. It has a far better purpose, and that’s to get visitors interested, and keep them interested.
